Whether you’re part of an organization or just a good old-fashioned book lover, there have always been opportunities to get involved with The Word On The Street. Read below for the best ways to be a part of the biggest book and magazine festival in Canada.
It takes a lot of volunteers to pull off a successful event, such as Word On The Street and we are looking for your skills, energy and enthusiasm to add to our team for 2016. It’s a great opportunity to be part of such a major festival in Lethbridge and to contribute to your community.
Please see below for the various positions and times that we are looking to fill, as well, stay tuned for changes and additions.
Saturday September 24th, 2016 (Festival Day)
Site set-up (8-10 Volunteers)
8:00 – 10:00 am
You will be involved with the set-up of:
Exhibitor Set-up (5-6 Volunteers)
Your job is to guide exhibitors to their proper booth within the marketplace tents and help them carry items to their space if needed. We will also require some people to direct vehicles while exhibitors are unloading in order to ensure everyone’s safety. This is especially important in the food area as the food trucks/carts can get quite large. You will also be answering any questions they might have.
Walkarounds and Crowd Counting (8-10 Volunteers)
Shift work: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm; 2:00 – 5:00 pm
You’ll be counting the crowd. The day of the festival you’ll be given a map that shows the different counting zones, as well as, a schedule of when you need to complete the counts.
Face Painting (10-12 Volunteers)
Shift work: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm; 1:00 – 3:00 pm; 3:00 – 5:00 pm
Face-painting is offered for free to festival guests
Volunteers are asked to work at whatever your skill/comfort level is.
Site Clean-Up (8-10 Volunteers)
5:00 – 7:00 pm
You will be involved with the clean-up and removal of:
We will be holding an orientation meeting for volunteers for 2016 in the Community Meeting Room of the main branch library. This meeting is optional. We will be going over the individual tasks and answering any questions that you might have. Date is still to be announced for 2016.
