Up Your Word Game in the CBC Kids Activity Tent at The Word On The Street

September 8, 2017

The Word On The Street Toronto, Canada’s largest free outdoor book and magazine festival, will bring fun literacy activities for kids inspired by their favourite authors at the CBC Kids Activity Tent. CBC Kids is proud to present some of Canada’s bestselling children’s authors and illustrators, including Naseem Hrab, Carol Pasternak, and Sylvia McNicoll among others. Mingle and play with the stars of Studio K: Gary the Unicorn, Janaye, Tony and Victor at different activity stations like the Virtual Studio K Dress Up and Wandering Wenda’s Wheel of Wonder. The 28th edition of The Word On The Street takes place on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Harbourfront Centre. Visit the festival’s website for more information.

“We’re jazzed to be part of The Word On The Street this year,” says Marie McCann, Senior Director of CBC Kids. “So many of our shows started as books and it’s really exciting for us to participate in an event that brings reading to life.”

At the CBC Kids Activity Tent you will:

  • Get up close and personal with Dot, Chirp and Bookaboo!
  • Play Wandering Wenda’s Wheel of Wonder, take a photo at the Studio K selfie station and download the Dotopedia app for free.
  • Draw your favourite things with Canada 123 author Paul Covello.
  • Create a quilt, inspired by Julie Kraulis’ book A Pattern for Pepper.
  • Make new friends with Naseem Hrab, author of Ira Crumb Makes a Pretty Good Friend.
  • Tag and release a monarch butterfly with Carol Pasternak, author of How to Raise Monarch Butterflies.
  • Solve crime with Sylvia McNicoll. Play whodunnit and figure out the motives behind some shady characters’ activities in The Great Mistake Mysteries. All detectives will earn an a-Maze-ing autograph.
