On September 5, Priscila Uppal passed at the age of 43. Uppal was a prolific poet, author, playwright, and beloved professor. She published 10 collections of poetry, two novels, a play, a memoir, and a short story collection. She was also an editor of several anthologies and poetry collections. Uppal was once dubbed the “Canada’s coolest poet” by Time Out London.
Priscila Uppal was scheduled to join us The Word On The Street Toronto this year as a guest, and her absence will be felt by all of us. As we mourn her passing, we honour and celebrate the contribution that Priscila Uppal made to Canadian Literature.
Our team would like to extend our sincere condolences to the friends, family, and readers of Uppal. She had a tremendous impact on her community and in the Canadian literary landscape; an impact that is not common or usual, but extraordinary.
