Apply to Perform at the Youth Spoken Word Showcase

April 18, 2016

The Word On The Street is excited to announce we’re once again sharing the mic during the Youth Spoken Word Showcase!

Presented in partnership with the award winning BAM! Toronto Youth Poetry Slam team and Poetry in Voice, teen poets ages 12 to 19 are invited to submit an original spoken word poem to the festival. Eight poets will have three minutes to recite their poems to an audience of over 50 people, with Q & A to follow.

This is your chance to be a featured poet at Canada’s biggest book and magazine festival!

Spoken word poetry can be used as an instrument through which you can explore and better understand your culture, society, and YOU. We encourage youth to use one of your most powerful tools, your voice, to share stories and create change.

Not sure what to write about? Here are some great links for instruction and inspiration!

Successful applicants will be invited to present their work to the public on stage at Harbourfront Centre on festival day – Sunday, September 25th, 2016.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 27, 2016. For more information, please visit our Youth Spoken Word Showcase page to view the application package.

Those interested in participating can send in their work to programming@thewordonthestreet.ca or by mail to The Word On The Street’s office at 67 Mowat Avenue, Suite 242, Toronto, ON M6K 3E3.

Good luck!
