The Word On The Street is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canadian reading, writing, and champions literacy primarily through a free, annual outdoor festival. Each September, in communities from coast to coast, we invite everyone to participate for free in hundreds of author events, presentations and workshops, and to browse a marketplace that boasts the best selection of Canadian books and magazines you’ll find anywhere.
Proudly operated entirely by the City, the Kitchener Word on the Street festival has grown to become a flagship downtown event. With the support of a strong partnership with the Kitchener Public Library and local media, the festival has continued to expand to include exceptional live entertainment, a stellar line-up of children and adult authors, and intriguing panel discussions/workshops representing Waterloo Regions’ thriving writing arts community. The 2015 Word on the Street will see the event expanding even more, to include the Kitchener Market, continuing its growth and increased collaboration with the local community.
