Whether you’re part of an organization or just a good old-fashioned book lover, there have always been opportunities to get involved with The Word On The Street. Read below for the best ways to be a part of the biggest book and magazine festival in Canada.

Calling all teen writers!  Submit an original short story and you could be part of September’s The Word On The Street festival! This year’s short story theme:  Community


  • Writers must be in grades 7-12 and live within the boundaries of the Chinook Arch Regional Library System.
  • Story must be between 500-1,000 words.
  • Story should be submitted as a PDF and written in 12pt font, double-spaced.
  • Include your name, email, phone, and school/grade with your entry.
  • Deadline for entries is September 6th, 2019 and winners will be contacted by September 13th, 2019.
  • Stories will be judged on entertainment value and writing quality.
