We’re less than two weeks out from WOTS 2018 and with over 150 authors and over 15 stages there’s so much to check out! It’s going to be a busy and bustling day and we want to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
You can always find where your favourite authors will be on our website, but if you’re having trouble deciding where to head on September 23rd, then take a look at these not-to-be-missed programs!
Our Indigenous Voices stage is returning this year! This stage is dedicated to Indigenous authors and literatures. Come hear some readings, or head over for a language lesson and you’ll learn some phrases in Cree or Anishinaabemowin! Attend the Opening and Closing ceremonies for a call to action on how we can move forward with reconciliation.
If you’re an aspiring poet, you definitely want to sign-up for the Franc’Open Mic Workshop! This workshop will use games and group activities to develop creativity, imagination and writing techniques! Not fluent in French? The workshop can be offered in both French and English.
Want to add a little extra fun to your WOTS day? Come see your favourite authors live on the WOTS Author Cruises! Romance fans should hop aboard The Love Boat, featuring Maggie K. Black, Stefanie London, and Mary Sullivan. Or do you experience some wanderlust? Grab tickets for Across Water, Across Time. Authors Alex Boyd, Andrea Curtis, and Kerri Sakamoto will be talking about their adventures on the water.
TD Kidstreet is an entire section of the festival that’s Just For Kids! Well, and of course their families. Kids can get to know the authors and illustrators of their favourite books at the TD Children’s Literature stage! Do they love play? They can engage with some hands-on learning over at the Children’s Activity Tent! They can draw along with story time or create their very own characters.
Do you speak French? Want to learn more? Then come on over to our French programming down at La scène Viamonde! There will be a mix of children’s and adults’ programming and you can finish off the day by watching the Franc’Open Mic Slam, an all-French open stage!
Want the bestselling books at the festival? Head on over to the Amazon.ca Bestsellers stage! You can hear popular authors like Kenneth Oppel, Linwood Barclay, Hana Shafi, and Amy Stuart talking about their latest books!
Our Great Books Stage features dynamic books from every genre— from fiction to poetry to non-fiction! Hear from authors of these awesome Canadian books like Sharon Bala, Joanna Goodman, Michael Barclay, and Nathan Ripley.
Are you an aspiring writer? Hoping to be featured at a future WOTS festival? Drop by the Studio Theatre for the Humber Wordshop Marquee! You can drop off the first page of your manuscript at the First Page Challenge for a chance to have your work assessed on stage. Learn from the faculty at the Humber School for Writers at one of their writing or career strategy workshops!
