Zayde’s Arcade
Coming of Age in Coney Island is Andy Smith’s love letter to Coney Island and his American Jewish family. Loosely based on his formative years growing up in New York City, Zayde’s Arcade is set amidst the fearsome rumble of a roller coaster, sticky cotton candy, and an ear-splitting penny arcade. Andy's coming of age tale tracks an innocent teenager through the summer of 1966 as he takes a job at his grandfather’s penny arcade and promptly plunges head over heels for a beautiful Italian girl, Anna.
The Kingdom of God and Playboys
Though this is a very frank story of rape, abuse, domestic violence, and a near-death experience, it is also a study of pushing through trauma, grief and despair to claim the wisdom and the ability to forgive the abusive men who were themselves victims of dysfunctional backgrounds.
Italian Bones of Contentions
Anita’s husband is missing and she blames the Mob. Unfortunately, her Italian best friend, Andy, is married to it. Who cares about the husband, he’s trash anyways according to Andy, and she has far worse challenges to contend with in her own life. Whether it’s her mother, father, brother-in-law, her ‘special’ child precocious Maria, the stove or her husband’s hens and rooster. Anita’s got problems? Forget it. Andy’s Bones of Contentions are mega-sized compared to a missing no-body. Or is that a missing body? Mum’s the word about the Mob in an Italian home. But it’s always there, hanging around…
