Barbara Carter – Healing Art – Village Tent C Lower Plaza Booth Z6

Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia Barbara's interest in drawing began around the age of ten. In her teen years, she wanted to pursue art as a career, but circumstances prevented that from happening. In her early twenties, she threw out her art supplies and did what everyone around her was doing-I got married and started a family.
In 1990 she began instructing art classes for children. For twelve years she travelled to numerous school in Lunenburg County, NS, offering after school classes. Soon after she began dabbling with writing. As she instructed art classes for high school students and my children approached their teens, she felt the need to write about my teen years to better understand the struggles she'd had.

Over the years teaching allowed Barbara to explore different media and incorporate what she'd taught into her work. No longer focusing on selling her art, she explored mixed-media: painting on wood, wood-burning, gluing fabric on wood, chalk pastels, oil pastels, collage, etc.  Today she follows where my inner voice leads.
