Congratulations Ian Brown and Karen Solie, winners of this year’s Trillium Book Award and Trillium Book Award for Poetry!  Both excellent Canadian talent.

Ian Brown won for his non-fiction book The Boy in the Moon.  A touching memoir about his relationship with his son, Walker, who was born with a rare genetic mutation, so rare that only about 300 people in the world may have it. Brown, a feature writer for The Globe and Mail, has already won nine Gold National Magazine and National Newspaper awards, the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction, British Columbia’s National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction, and now calls the Trillium Book Award his own.  Congrats Ian!

Karen Solie won the poetry prize for her collection, Pigeon.  It explores people’s delusions and mistaken perceptions, violence, bad luck, fate, catastrophe, love and danger.  She won the Griffin Poetry prize earlier this year for the same collection, and is well on her to becoming a prominent Canadian poet!  Congrats Karen.
