The Word On The Street’s Book Club discussion of The Oakdale Dinner Club got started last week. Check out the conversation!

This week, book club leader Liz has a few questions based on roughly Chapters 8 – 16. Feel free to use these as a jumping-off point for any other thoughts or questions you may have too.

Hello! Here’s one of my favourite apple pie recipes, from Nigella Lawson’s “How to be a Domestic Goddess”. I made this for my birthday! http://www.food.com/recipe/double-apple-pie-337431

Part 2:

  1. What do you think of the shifting character perspectives? Do they roughly align with one was introduced at the pool in the opening scene?
  2. How does Sam feel about Mary Ann? Does he care about her, or an idealized version of her?
  3. Why doesn’t Danielle enjoy cooking? She is obviously a gifted cook, but grates at being identified as a cook or maintaining a farm. What does this say about her perceived place in her family, versus what she wants?
  4. How is Melina, the babysitter, reflecting Mary Ann and Alice’s paths to adulthood?
