The First Collection of Criticism by a Living Female Rock Critic by Jessica Hopper, the Editor in Chief of The Pitchfork Review and a senior editor at Pitchfork
It’s refreshing to read about music from a woman’s perspective, and now I might love Lana Del Rey a little more too.
Women Photographers at National Geographic by Cathy Newman
It’s a history of the magazine’s women photographers, and the stuff they had to go through to get their photos published. Several of the photographers I knew (Jodi Cobb for example) others, like Ella Maillart, who sailed in the 1924 Olympics and then travelled the world after, I didn’t know. Plus obviously, the photos are brilliant.
Midnight to the North: The Untold Story of the Inuit Woman Who Saved the Polaris Expedition by Sheila Nickerson
About an Inuit woman named Tookoolito who was a translator and guide to explorer Charles Francis Hall in the 1870s. It’s a fascinating story so far, and I’m so excited to be reading about a First Nations woman because we don’t hear enough of their stories.
