The festival shows its support each year by providing free exhibit space to 20 literacy groups in the\u00a0Exhibitor Marketplace to help them promote their programs, attract new tutors and volunteers, and raise funds.<\/p>\n<p>The Word On The Street is partnering with seven community groups this year to program the <strong>Learning Tent<\/strong>. The Learning Tent is a family-friendly destination where experts in the fields of literacy and education will share informative and entertaining activities, and introduce the public to a range of community literacy projects.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re\u00a0pleased to announce that our\u00a0Literacy Programming Partners for the 2015 festival are <a href=\"http:\/\/idaontario.com\/\"><strong>ONBIDA<\/strong> <\/a>(the Ontario branch of the International Dyslexia Association), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frontiercollege.ca\/\"><strong>Frontier College<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vallummag.com\/\"><strong>Vallum Society for Education in Arts and Letters<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariosciencecentre.ca\/\"><strong>Ontario Science Centre<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>The Ontario Cultural Society of the Deaf<\/strong> (OCSD) and <a href=\"http:\/\/silentvoice.ca\/\"><strong>Silent Voice<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstbookcanada.org\/\"><strong>First Book Canada<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0For a full schedule of Learning Tent activities, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewordonthestreet.ca\/wots\/toronto\/celebrate\">The Word On The Street\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><u>Learning Tent Highlights:<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the <strong>Recognize the warning signs of dyslexia<\/strong> workshop, speech-language pathologists <strong>Jana Leggett<\/strong> and <strong>Sherry Raffalovitch<\/strong> lead a dyslexia simulation, teaching participants how to identify students at risk, and how to intervene to help students overcome their reading and writing difficulties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Canada\u2019s original literacy organization, <strong>Frontier College<\/strong>, believes in developing quality learning opportunities to motivate the next generation of readers and leaders. Join Frontier College in <strong>Math Twister <\/strong>and <strong>Picture Bingo<\/strong>, classic games with a fun and educational twist! Each visitor will receive a free new children\u2019s book.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vallum Society for Education in Arts and Letters<\/strong> and author <strong>Greg Santos<\/strong> invite visitors to write a poem with <strong>&#8220;Newspaper + marker = blackout poetry.&#8221;<\/strong> This activity illustrates poet James Tate&#8217;s remark: &#8220;Poetry is everywhere; it just needs editing.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Join The <strong>Ontario Science Centre<\/strong> for an explosion of brainstorming, building, rethinking and\u2026more rebuilding as you tackle real world problems. Working together to solve a challenge, festivalgoers are invited to design, build and test probable solutions using a variety of common but\u00a0 unexpected materials within unreasonable limits of time and resources, with ambiguous directions and changing conditions. The Ontario Science Centre\u2019s facilitators will guide guests toward solutions as they exercise ingenuity, innovativeness and imagination in a fun, creative atmosphere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the <strong>ASL Storytelling, Rhythms and Rhymes<\/strong> segment, renowned Deaf storytellers bring American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture and Deaf heritage to the stage, with rhymes and rhythms, personification, poetry, rap, and storytelling like no other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First Book Canada<\/strong> invites you to a presentation of <em>The Legend of Ninja Cowboy Bear<\/em> with author and illustrator <strong>Hilary Leung<\/strong>.
