The Word On The Street Toronto <\/strong>is thrilled to announce highlights of the author line-up and special events planned for the festival\u2019s 26th<\/sup> edition on Sunday, September 27th<\/sup><\/strong>. The festival is proud to feature new works that represent the quality and diversity of Canadian literature on 16 outdoor and indoor stages at The Word On The Street\u2019s new Harbourfront Centre location.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Amazon.ca Bestsellers Stage<\/a><\/strong>, at Harbourfront Centre Theatre, offers something for everyone. \u00a0Patrick deWitt<\/strong> <\/a>headlines the stage with his first novel since the critically acclaimed, Man Booker Prize-nominated The Sisters Brothers<\/em>\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad. Undermajordomo Minor <\/em><\/strong>is a gripping and subversive tale, presented at The Word On The Street in deWitt\u2019s first Toronto appearance in support of the book.<\/p>\n

With the federal election approaching, audiences will gain political insight from experts Bob Rae<\/a><\/strong> and former Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page<\/a><\/strong>. Authors Kim Echlin<\/a><\/strong>, Kelley Armstrong<\/a><\/strong>, Kenneth Oppel<\/a><\/strong>, Neil Pasricha<\/a><\/strong>, Chef Michael Smith<\/a><\/strong>, and HGTV Canada\u2019s Bryan Baeumler<\/a><\/strong> round out the line-up on the Amazon.ca Bestsellers Stage.<\/p>\n

The Cooks \u2018n\u2019 Books Stage<\/a><\/strong>, one of our new stages supported by Celebrate Ontario, is the festival destination for cooking demos and samples, including an appearance by gourmet street food chef Matt Basile<\/a><\/strong>. With the lake as a new neighbour, visitors can join Terry Fallis<\/a><\/strong>, Susanna Kearsley<\/a><\/strong>, Lynn Crosbie<\/a><\/strong>, Andrew Pyper<\/a><\/strong>, and more at Author Cruises<\/a> <\/strong>on the Tall Ship Kajama<\/em>. Among the festival\u2019s literary treasures, the Great Books Marquee<\/a> <\/strong>features Austin Clarke<\/a><\/strong>, Don Gillmor<\/a><\/strong>, Trevor Cole<\/a><\/strong>, and Giles Blunt<\/a><\/strong>. The Vibrant Voices of Ontario Tent<\/a><\/strong>, supported by the OMDC, hosts Nick Pengelley<\/a><\/strong> and Nazneen Sheikh<\/a><\/strong>, among other great writers. The Wordshop Marquee<\/a><\/strong>, featuring the Humber School for Writers, provides informative talks from established authors including Nino Ricci<\/a><\/strong>, Robert Rotenberg<\/a><\/strong>, and Emily Pohl-Weary<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the nonfiction Nothing But The Truth Tent<\/a><\/strong>, witness the personal and professional journeys of journalists Peter Kavanagh<\/strong> <\/a>and Mark Bulgutch<\/a><\/strong>. Learn the secrets of researching a scandal at the Toronto Star Tent<\/a><\/strong>, with their team of award-winning investigative reporters.<\/p>\n

The Word On The Street\u2019s installation art exhibit Sculpting New Reads<\/a><\/strong> returns this year. Authors Patrick deWitt<\/strong>, Alexandra Grigorescu<\/a><\/strong>, Erin Bow<\/a><\/strong>, and Adam Shoalts<\/a><\/strong> will have their literary works interpreted by local artists, and installation pieces based on the books will be on display at the festival\u2019s Harbourfront Centre site.<\/p>\n

This year the festival will host even more ways for kids and families to learn, have fun, and be active outdoors. As title sponsor of TD KidStreet<\/strong>, TD will be giving attendees a chance to have their picture taken for free inside a giant, 12-foot storybook<\/strong>. Choose from one of three exciting stories to personalize with your photo!<\/p>\n

Find entertainment for the whole family at TVOKids LIVE!<\/strong><\/a> Learn how to create a picture book with JonArno Lawson<\/a><\/strong> and Sydney Smith<\/a><\/strong> at the Children’s Activity Tent<\/a><\/strong> in Purina PawsWay, and cartoon with Evan Munday<\/a><\/strong>. Celebrate the best children’s literary fiction at the TD Children’s Literature Tent<\/a><\/strong> with Dennis Lee<\/a><\/strong>, Barbara Reid<\/a><\/strong>, Kyo Maclear<\/a><\/strong>, Patricia Storms<\/a><\/strong>, and more. Middle grade fiction highlights include Kevin Sylvester<\/a><\/strong> and Frieda Wishinsky<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
