About The Word On The Street<\/strong>
\nThe Word On The Street Toronto, is Canada\u2019s largest annual book and magazine festival; taking place in September each year, it now attracts over 220,000 booklovers to downtown Toronto. One of our city\u2019s best and most popular events\u2014featuring a lively exhibitor marketplace, top-notch author readings and quality family programming\u2014The Word On The Street Toronto is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canadian reading and writing, and advocates literacy.<\/p>\n

The Role<\/strong>
\nAs The Word On The Street Toronto moves to its new site at Harbourfront Centre, we are looking for a Programming Assistant to support the Festival Director with coordinating the artistic program of the event.<\/p>\n

This is a full-time volunteer internship, running from May through the end of September.<\/strong>
\nMonthly honourarium for this internship is $1,000 ($5,000 in total).<\/p>\n

Duties include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Liaise with publicists, presenters, performers and hosts
\n\u2022 Maintain a database with up-to-date and accurate programming information; ensure author\/book submissions are processed accurately and in a timely manner
\n\u2022 Facilitate the creation and mailing of all artist invitations and scheduling confirmations\/festival day information letters
\n\u2022 Gather content for Festival Program (artwork, headshots, bios, book descriptions)
\n\u2022 Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for all pertinent authors
\n\u2022 Prepare comprehensive event tent binders
\n\u2022 Create detailed sales lists to ensure all required book titles are stocked by the Official Booksellers
\n\u2022 Draft and proofread programming content for Festival Programs, Toronto Star Festival Guide and website
\n\u2022 Create programming-related press releases, and media kits
\n\u2022 Contribute written content for a bi-monthly e-newsletter, festival blog and Twitter page
\n\u2022 Support the Festival Director with management of festival-day programming<\/p>\n

Personal Qualifications:
\n<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Must be currently enrolled in college or university education in the arts with a demonstrated interest in Canadian writing and publishing
\n\u2022 Highest level of attention to detail
\n\u2022 Exemplary interpersonal skills
\n\u2022 Excellent writing, copy editing, proofreading skills
\n\u2022 Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
\n\u2022 Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize tasks according to urgency
\n\u2022 Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
\n\u2022 Positive attitude and willingness to learn
\n\u2022 You must also be a mature-minded, confident, team player, who is able to maintain a sense of humour in a fast paced environment
\n\u2022 **Must be available the entire festival weekend (September 26th and 27th, 2015)**
