Would the first page of your manuscript make an editor want to turn the page? Find out during the First Page Challenge! Drop off an anonymous hard copy of your page to the table outside the Wordshop Marquee for a chance to have your work assessed on stage by editor Susan Renouf and writer Antanas Sileika. At 4 pm, the School for Writers host will choose pages at random and read some of the prose aloud. Susan and Antanas will give thumbs up or down and say why. Due to time constraints, not all submissions will be read. Please note on your submission whether the page is from adult or young adult writing, and from a story or a novel.
Susan Renouf has held executive positions at a number of publishers, including Key Porter Books and McClelland & Stewart. She is currently the principal of her own consulting service, providing strategic advice and editorial services to the publishing industry and an executive editor at large for ECW Press.
Antanas Sileika’s most recent book is the memoir, The Barefoot Bingo Caller, which author Miriam Toews has called “dead-on funny”. The recently retired director of The Humber School for Writers, he is also the author of four books of fiction and has been shortlisted for the Leacock Medal for Humour and the City of Toronto Book award.
