- About Us
The Word On The Street is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canadian reading, writing, and champions literacy primarily through a free, annual outdoor festival. Each September, in communities from coast-to-coast, we invite everyone to participate in hundreds of author events, presentations and workshops, and to browse a marketplace that boasts the best selection of Canadian books and magazines you’ll find anywhere. And it’s free!
What does it cost to attend?
Admission to The Word On The Street is free.
When will the festival take place?
The 2017 edition of The Word On The Street Toronto will take place on Sunday, September 24.
What is the festival rain date?
The festival does not plan a rain date. We celebrate reading come rain or shine.
Where will the festival take place?
In 2017 the festival will take place at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. The festival’s exhibitor marketplace and author reading venues will occupy Harbourfront Centre’s outdoor exhibition grounds as well as indoor venues including the Harbourfront Theatre, and Harbourfront Centre Main Building.
When will the full programming schedule be announced?
Each year, the full programming line-up is announced in August. Visit our Participants Page to see a list of authors for this year or our Schedule Page to see full programming descriptions for each of our stages.
What do you offer for children?
The festival’s TD KidStreet is dedicated to celebrating Canada’s vibrant children’s publishing industry. All exhibitors display merchandise for children or parents, and there are several venues that feature programming specifically geared to children under 12.
Children are welcome at all festival venues, however we advise that you review the programming descriptions to ensure that content is appropriate for children.
Is the festival wheelchair accessible?
The Word On The Street is wheelchair accessible. Please click here for further information about Harbourfront Centre’s accessibility plan.
