Whether your goal is to promote new book titles, create awareness of your organization, or sell books, magazines and related items, The Word on the Street Saskatoon is the place to connect with festival visitors in a family friendly atmosphere. Watch for opportunities in 2024.

About The Festival

Canada’s largest book and magazine festival, The Word On The Street is a not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to celebrating the written word and advocating for literacy. Held in five cities across Canada, the event is free to the public and draws more than 260,000 book lovers nationally in a single day.

The 2023 festival will host Saskatchewan authors and presenters in-person and virtually at The Refinery and École Victoria school.

AUDIENCE
  • This year in Saskatoon, we anticipate over 6,000 book lovers.
  • We will be hosting Canadian authors and presenters from across the country.
  • In 2019, we hosted 18 exhibitors in the Marketplace.

MARKETING

  •  Exhibitors will appear in our 2020 Festival Program (only if applied before April 1st).
  •  Exhibitors will be highlighted on our festival website: www.thewordonthestreet.com

MEDIA RELATIONS

  • Major print, radio and TV outlets in Saskatoon will cover The Word on the Street’s 2020 festival.

VENUE

  • Broadway Avenue, Saskatoon, between 12th Street and Main Street and down 10th Street to
    Dufferin Avenue will be transformed into an exciting outdoor/indoor festival.

ADVERTISE WITH THE WORD ON THE STREET

  • Advertise in the Festival Program, distributed throughout Saskatoon book stores, libraries, coffee
    shops, retailers and various literary arts organizations in May and June. Circulation: 10,000

EXHIBITOR CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

*If your organization is not defined by these categories, please select ‘other exhibitor’ and elaborate on the registration form.

Booksellers: Companies whose primary
business is the retail of books and magazines
with 1 or more locations.

Book Publishers & Distributors: Companies
whose primary business is the publishing
and/or distribution of books or electronic
books with over 5 titles per year.

Magazine/Newspaper Publishers &
Distributors: Companies whose primary
business is the publishing and/or distribution of
print or electronic formats of one or more
magazines or newspapers. A magazine is a
printed and bound periodical (or e‐magazine)
available to the general public; Multi‐title or
single title with a circulation above 10,000.

Micro‐Book Publisher/Distributor: Companies
whose primary business is the publishing
and/or distribution of books or electronic
books with 2‐4 titles per year.

Self‐publishers/Independent authors: Selfpublishers
are individuals who have produced a
book at their own expense. Self‐published
authors are limited to selling their own work at
the festival; 1 title per year.

Micro‐Magazine Publisher/Newspaper:
Companies whose primary business is the
publishing and/or distribution of print or
electronic formats of one or more [cont.]

Micro‐Magazine Publisher/Newspaper: [cont.]
magazines or newspapers. A magazine is a
printed and bound periodical (or e‐magazine)
available to the general public; Single title with
circulation less than 10,000.

Arts Organizations: Entities that promote the
arts.

Associations: Entities whose membership
includes organizations or individuals from the
book and magazine industry

Libraries and Educational Institutes:
Organizations that provide a service to the
community and exhibit at The Word On The
Street solely to market these services.

Literacy Organizations: Practicing non‐profit or
charitable organizations that provide literacy
programs and/or services. To be eligible for free
space, your organization must provide family
literacy programs and/ or services for adults and
children. Space is limited and is distributed on a
first‐come, first‐serve basis and subject to
approval.

Book Related Vendors: Sellers of retail goods
related to books.

Other: Special consideration will be given to
exhibitors that do not fall within one of the
categories above but may enhance the festival
experience. Applications will be assessed on a
case‐by‐case basis by the Board of Directors of
WOTS Saskatoon.

 

All exhibitor applications must be approved by The Word On The Street Saskatoon Inc.

 

EXHIBITOR REGULATIONS

1. Exhibitors must set up between 7:00 and 9:45 am on festival day. Booths must be up and vehicles
removed by 9:30 am.

2. The Exhibitor will keep the Exhibitor space open and staffed
at all times during the Festival. The Festival reserves the
right to restrict exhibits to a maximum noise level and to
suitable methods of operation and display. The Festival
reserves the right to relocate exhibits when, in its opinion,
it is necessary to maintain good order of the Festival.

3. Exhibitors agree to remove their exhibits from the festival
site by 7:00 pm the same day. If the exhibit is not
dismantled by this time, exhibitors will be billed for any
extra costs incurred.

4. Be prepared: Dress accordingly! We can’t control the
weather, and even on sunny days, exhibitors may be in the
shade. Also, if it’s windy, you will want to bring
paperweights.

5. The Word On The Street Saskatoon does not provide signage
for your booth. Booths will have numbered signs on the
booths that correspond to the listings on the exhibitor map.

6. No merchandise, food or beverages shall be distributed at
the Festival site without prior approval of The Word On The
Street Saskatoon.

7. All Exhibitor draws and promotional giveaways must be
approved by The Word On The Street prior to the Festival
and not require any financial obligation on the part of the
winner. Contest terms and conditions, and a list of all prizes
with their value must be clearly posted. The Festival
reserves the right to cease any draws that do not meet the
above‐mentioned criteria.

8. Exhibitors are responsible for collecting and bagging their
own garbage/recycling and removing it at the end of the
festival. Either put it in the large festival bins on site or take
it with you.

9. Although Exhibitor booths are sheltered and there will be
site security, exhibitors must insure themselves and their
property. The Word On The Street Saskatoon cannot be
held responsible for inclement weather and is not able to
refund the exhibitor fee. If the Festival should be prevented
from taking place by any cause beyond the control of the
Festival’s management, or if the Festival cannot permit the
Exhibitors to occupy their rented space due to
circumstances beyond its control including, but not limited
to, strike, civil disobedience, lockouts, acts of God, acts or
threats of terrorism, The Word On The Street Saskatoon’s
management shall have no further obligation or liability to
the Exhibitor.

10. The Word On The Street Saskatoon does not censor
books or other materials displayed by the exhibitor.
However, the laws of Canada apply. If for any reason, an
Exhibitor or its contents are deemed to be objectionable
by the Festival, the exhibit will be removed without
refund.

11. The Exhibitor agrees to abide by all by‐laws, rules,
directions, orders and regulations of the City of
Saskatoon, Saskatoon Police and Fire Department, and
other municipal authorities and the Festival.

12. The Exhibitor agrees to indemnify and save harmless The
Word On The Street Saskatoon, the City of Saskatoon,
and any other participants from and against any direct or
indirect loss or damage to persons or property caused by
any act of the exhibitor, its employees, servants or
agents. The Word On The Street Saskatoon shall not be
held responsible for any direct or indirect loss or damage
of any kind or nature, however caused, incurred by the
Exhibitor, its employees, servants or agents, as a result
of its occupation of exhibit space or other participation
in the Festival.

13. The Exhibitor shall not use or permit the use of The
Word On The Street’s name and/or logo without prior
written approval by The Word On The Street Saskatoon.

14. If the Exhibitor fails to conform to these requirements,
The Word On The Street Saskatoon may terminate this
agreement without making any refund, and may remove
the Exhibitor, its employees, servants or agents from the
Festival and Festival grounds. The Word On The Street
Saskatoon shall not be responsible for direct or indirect
loss or damage of any kind or nature incurred by the
Exhibitor as a result of the Festival’s termination of this
agreement.
